Millitant Laugh
“Its a militant laugh that I have” Arundhati Roy
Do whatever you gotta do to laugh about it.
Make it funny because it is — in that oh-my-god—is-this-realy- happening—kind of way.
Because when you laugh at power, you laugh away its power.
From an embodiment perspective, laughter releases tension.
Oppression creates tension in our bodies. Oppression puts pressure on our bodies
Laughter loosens that grip.
But nora, laughing won’t make it go away.
That’s right, oppression won’t vanish in a punchline.
If it was you’d know what id be doing for the rest of my life.
But it’s a fucking crack in the wall.
“Laughing saves us time, in the long run - time we’d have to spend, entangling oppression from our bodies.
It won’t erase the impact — but it softens the imprint,
Because when you laugh at power, you laugh away its power. So lets laugh about it. It’s part of the fight.
Laughter is a extremly powerful tool for dismantling systems of oppression.
And here’s why:
Cause you cant make this shit up:
at a party, a man starts explaining a book to Rebecca Solnit — completely unaware that she wrote it.
He hadn’t even read the book, just skimmed a review.
And even after being told twice — by her friend —
that he was talking to the author herself, he kept going.
That moment became the spark for her now-famous essay “Men Explain Things to Me”
— and coined the term mansplaining.
And how it always seems to go
In the moment you lack the words to address it, but days later ‚ you know exactly what you wish you had said.
Imagine taking that to the next level. Don’t just say “please don’t.” Drip it in sass.
Make that eye-roll. Say it with full body sass.
Make it a scene. A comedic act.
Hey you can I interrupt a second I think I forgot something.
What’s the word again for if someone is trying to explain things you already know.
No i dont want to be rude I just thought that you might know it cause you know a lot.
One thing we have in common I also underestimate myself.
I know I look a bit stupid no suprise you think of me this way.
I know I look a bit stupid no suprise you think I wouldnt know.
